My experience at Boston University was so amazing. It was surprising to see that Boston University is a whole town. Every single building is related to the university: department buildings, dorms, recreational spaces, and even the cinema. The better part is that every single discipline has its own building, and there is a big variety of majors for each discipline. The people in the transfer office were so helpfully, friendly and hospitable and they were so glad to answer any questions. The school that I decided to visit was the Hospitality Administration school.
When I got in to the building of Hospitality Administration, the director of student service, Miss Abigail Raspallo, provided me with a personalized attention, making me feel confident in this new environment. Actually, she told me that all the coursers are given in that building, and the classroom are not crowded. As a result, you don’t have to leave the building and everybody gets to know each other; this makes you feel comfortable and safe as home. The same building has 50 computer labs to do homework or research papers, Wi-Fi that all the students can have access, and also there are more than 400 clubs for extracurricular activities. She also commented that study of Hospitality Administration is an international experience because the students must participate in 400 hours of field experience and an international work experience. Also internships have been created at the top hospitality companies, nationally and around the world, like Marriot International, Starwood Hotels, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, The Seoul Millennium Hilton (South Korea), Disneyland Paris Resort, La Vina (Quito, Ecuador), The Four Seasons, The London Hilton, The Ritz-Carlton in U.S and Grand Cayman Island. In addition, in order to graduate from the College of Art and Science, 48 of the 128 credits must be strong liberal arts credits. Before the end of our trip, I had the chance to be in one class. The professor was gentle and let me participate in his class. However, his class was the continuation of a preview one, so at the beginning I was kind of lost, but I can say that the class on Financial Risk Management was very informative and interactive. The professor encouraged the students to analyze each situation and to use their critical thinking skills.
In conclusion, even though we live in the most modern and beautifully metropolitan city of New York, unfortunately the majors and careers are limited. Most of the colleges of the city offer similar options. On the contrary, Boston University has a huge assortment of majors, and facilities to develop in that environment. And also it is a serious institution that really cares about their students’ progress. Even all the people from the faculty were helpful. The classes could be kind of hard, but the professors are committed to helping and supporting students in order to improve their academic studies. The internships are done with the most prestigious enterprises, so their students have the experience of working in the most competitive market. In other words Boston University provides all the recourses that their students need in order to achieve their goal, and graduate with high average score that makes them stand out in the job market.
