On February 26, 2013 , I went on a trip with the LaGuardia Community College’s Honors Student Advisory Committee to visit colleges in Massachusetts. I decided to visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology because I am someone who has an interest in science, such as physics and astronomy, ever since I was in middle school. I heard a lot about how MIT is one of the best schools to attend if you have an interest in science, math, and engineering. However, I believe that a person should not pick a school based on its rankings; the choice should be based on whether you think you would fit well as a student and your goals for the school.  MIT chooses people not because of how well a person did on the SAT s or grades, but because of who you are and what's important to you.

If you're a person who likes to study and work together with others, MIT makes sense because it is a school where professors and students from different fields of study all work together to achieve a common goal. For example, MIT has the engineers, doctors, mathematicians, other scientists, and professors all working together for a project such as finding a cure for cancer. What I found interesting is that MIT has about 5000 undergraduate students and a few of the professors are Noble Prize winners. Also, MIT offers does more than just studying; it also provides fun activities and clubs. Last year, MIT organized a pumpkin drop for Thanksgiving and Halloween and when there was a snowstorm, they had a huge snowball fight.

Finally, one class we entered was autonoma for computer science. I believe the professor was good at teaching and in the classroom.  You feel uncomfortable because the seating area is like how it is in an auditorium and in total , the class had about 30-40 students. However, instead of taking a class at the same school, MIT offers a special program called cross-registration which allows you to attend classes in other schools nearby MIT such as Harvard which is like a 30-minute walk away. Another thing about MIT is that the food is good and cheap and the campus is very clean. They also have a variety of labs and combined programs. However, MIT is more than just a top-ranked school; it is also about how people are treated like members of a family. I believe this trip helped me to consider how it feels like to be at an out-of-state university and what it takes to be there at MIT since it is my top transfer choice.
